Our Story
In 1974, we purchased The Grand Home and we moved our family back to the town we grew up in to raise our daughters in a community that brought us so many memories, friends and joy.
Hi! My name is Mel Doughty. I started King's Publishers in 1979 and in the past few years, I've added on a few promotional pieces like "VOTE" for the local elections and "The Directory" we've been doing for 11 years now. We had "Coming Home" magazine from 2000-2004 and we felt it was time to update it and relaunch, hence "Coming Home Again."
It is our intention to share and celebrate all the events and festivities that the Mayfield/Graves Co area has to offer in our magazine.

Mel Doughty
CEO I Publisher
Mel Doughty’s journey in publishing began in 1967 with Christian materials, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion for storytelling and community engagement. After relocating to Mayfield, Kentucky, in 1974, Mel shifted his focus to local publications and, in 1978, launched the Catalog of Homes. What began in his garage with just an IBM typewriter, a process camera, and a tabletop press quickly grew into a thriving enterprise that expanded to over 27 cities. And, for the past 12 years, Mel has been publishing the Mayfield Directory and Coming Home Again magazines.
Born in Lansing, Michigan, Mel was raised in Mayfield, KY. He went on to earn a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Murray State University, followed by a Master of Religious Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Mel is married to Patricia, a former third-grade teacher. He served as the Baptist Campus Minister for 21 years and was also the West Kentucky Collegiate Consultant for the Kentucky Baptist Convention. His dedication to ministry extends to working with King's Players to sponsor Creations and leading church-related screen-printing through King’s Screen Printing.
Mel’s passion for service also takes him around the globe. This summer he is celebrating 25 years of coordinating mission trips (traveling to Poland over 35 times) and sharing his faith and love for community with the world.
